Mrs. Pan started her speech with a personal note about classical music and made a transition to the newly built German sight. In 2007 construction works for the fitout of an old royal warehouse into the philharmonic hall started. After almost ten years the “Elbphilharmonie” was completed in November 2016 on costs of 865 million Euro. The building which is located between the city centre of Hamburg and the Harbour resembles a sailing ship. The glas façade alongside the curved represents the unique style of the harbour city. The arrangement of chairs in the big concert halls is based on the principle of vineyard terraces. The renowned white skin of the concert hall was designed by the famous Japanese acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota. I guarantees acoustic indulgence for every visitor no matter where his seat is located. A lot of famous people joined the opening ceremony of the “Elbphilharmonie” amongst them former German president Joachim Gauck, current German president Frank Walther Steinmeier and chancelor Angela Merkel. A concert was played by the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and after that the whole building was illuminated with a lightshow.
