On Friday, 2nd of December, the third concert took place on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of USST. At the same time, it was the celebration of 30 years of partnership with the Sino-Hamburg college.

The German Culture Centre invited the solo pianist Stepan Simonian for this concert. The trade press calls him “one of the best Bach-interpreter of his generation”. The guest host of this concert was the Chinese pianist Tang Jin. She is also associate professor for piano at the Shanghai Music College.

Stepan Simonian chose the Partita No. 6 in E minor by Bach to start the concert. This piece is one of the most famous pieces by Bach and also one of his best suites. It is a suite of seven movements. The audience listened carefully to the sounds of the piano while the fingers of the pianist glided easily over the keyboard. After these seven movements of the suite, the audience knew why Prof. Simonian was called one of the best Bach-interpreter of his generation.

For the second part of the concert, he chose the piece “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Mussorgsky which is one of the most famous ones of this composer. Prof. Simonian took the audience on a journey through these pictures which were described by Mussorgsky with music. The audience was delighted and gave him a great applause so that he played another three pieces as an encore.
